It's summer time!

Today is Amelia's last day of school... her last day in the fabulous MWF3's class, lead by Mrs. Grau and Mrs. Derby. We couldn't have asked for two more loving, creative, and enthusiastic teachers for our girl.

Can't believe what a difference eight months make... she's significantly taller and a bit wiser then when she started in September, but her love of sparkle shoes hasn't changed one bit!

My girl keeps asking if she's "graduating." Thankfully, I have a few years before I have to tackle that milestone. I can't imagine sending her off to college some day!

Right now, we're just looking forward to a summer filled with fun... camp, the pool with friends, the beach, California, and more camp. Can't wait!

Hop, hop, hoppity HOP!

Contrary to this photo, we Brinsons had a wonderful Easter! This photo was our attempt at a capturing sibling love, but clearly, we failed miserably. Thank goodness art doesn't imitate reality, as Amelia and Noah really do get along famously.

Much to Amelia's delight, the Easter Bunny remembered she'd be at her GG's house for the holiday. She was very concerned that she wouldn't get an Easter basket. GG, aka "Easter Bunny", surprised the kids with the most wonderful collection of holiday treats. Amelia and Noah were thrilled!

Lee and I even received special treats, thus reinforcing our belief in the bunny. The bunny also brought me a delightful bonus gift... a wonderful Sunday afternoon nap - thanks GG!

We all had a fantastic weekend in Salisbury. Yet again, Burt and Gayle took exceptional care of our family, fed us like kings, and gifted us with special treats. We are very lucky!

Cottontail

Yesterday was the last day of spring break ballet camp... and the big "performance" of Peter Rabbit. Admittedly, the recital was light on ballet. Instead, it was heavy on running-leaping-twirling and full of giggles and smiles.

Lee and I are still cloudy on the story of Peter Rabbit. The performance must have been a modern-minimalist interpretation of this children's classic because we're still scratching our heads. We do know that Amelia played the role of "Cottontail" who must have been a long distance runner in the story, as our girl completed many laps around the dance room.

Story details aside, lack of actual ballet dancing aside, you'd never seen two more proud parents the Lee and me leaving the dance studio yesterday morning. As far as were concerned... we've got ourselves a prima ballerina!

Pure Joy!

Today was the first day of spring break ballet camp - Peter Rabbit. Amelia couldn't have been happier! She was in the car at 8:15a even though we didn't need to leave until 8:40a. Once we arrived at Triangle Youth Ballet, she rushed in, put on her ballet shoes, and ran to the dance room. She never stopped dancing the entire three hours her teacher said. I'm guessing she never stopped smiling either!

Here are some photos and a few seconds of her warm up...

T-Rex Robots

Today was a big day. Amelia went to her first soccer practice. Hopefully, it's the start of a long love affair with the sport. Nothing would make her mom happier.

We signed Amelia up for the YMCA's spring soccer program. Chosen solely because they only play Saturday games, no practices. The other league in town has Saturday games and two weekday practices. I don't know about Amelia, but I'm not ready for that kind of commitment.

Practice was a success! From the second we parked the car and Amelia saw all the kids with their parents heading to the fields, the excitement started bubbling. "Mom, Mom! This is so much fun!" We hadn't left the parking lot.

They introduced themselves, stretched, ran, hopped, dribbled, passed the ball, shot on goal... and had lots and lots of fun. Amelia has classmates on her team - Jon G and her good friend Josie. Jon and Josie's dads are the coaches and Lee, being the great dad he is, has also volunteered his services.

At the end of practice, it came time to name their team. Amelia promptly suggested "The Unicorns." "Armadillos" was another suggestion; their shirts are grey. Next up, "T-Rex" and then "Robots." Unfortunately for Amelia, unicorns was not the team's choice. Evidently, there was a tie between two names... team #19 will now be know as the "T-Rex Robots."

We're off next week for Easter, then she'll have another practice. Our first game will be April 25. Can't wait!

Spreading pixie dust

Amelia and her good friend Josie spent the afternoon dressed as "princess fairies"... could anything be cuter?

Here's some evidence of their pixieness...

Sunday afternoon at the park

We just got home from the park... it was too beautiful a day to be inside. Noah loves wide open spaces. He could walk for days and not get tired. The boy also loves slides. You should hear him giggle as he zooms down.

Noah desperately wants to ride Amelia's new scooter. He stands on it every chance he gets. Amelia is not the best sharer, but she learning.

You can tell a good time was had by all just by looking at last photo. We were WORN out!

Cheering for the home team!

The kiddos are getting ready to cheer on the Heels in tomorrow's game against Oklahoma. To say Lee is nervous is an UNDERSTATEMENT... but, he's trying his hardest to hide it.

It must be like looking into a mirror for Lee... that Noah is a spitting image of his dad.

Have you ever seen cuter Carolina fans?!

Rhyming preschool-style

Today, Amelia's class put on a performance of nursery rhymes. What a treat! They've been learning them over the past few weeks and I'm so impressed. I can't believe how many Amelia has memorized.

She's been a
practicing fool... in her room, at dinner, in the bathtub, while playing with her horse farm, in the car, while dancing... she hasn't stopped singing since they started this lesson in class. She does it almost subconsciously.

Amelia was in her element this morning. From the moment the kids walked into the classroom ("HI MOM! HI DAD!") until the final bow (big wave to the crowd), Amelia didn't let up. Loved her confidence... but, what does this mean when she's thirteen? Watch out!

She's clearly not afraid of an audience, as evident in the last video - "Finale!" I'm not sure if she's just dancing or trying out for an air-guitar competition. The girl has got some moves.

After the performance a classmate's mom came up to me -- "She's such a ham!" There's no hiding I'm Amelia's mother. I have to admit, I love it... I'm so proud of my girl.

Sk8tr Grl

A quick post of some photos of last night's skating lesson (6 of 8). It should be noted that Amelia dressed herself... she wouldn't take off the "adorable" hand-me-down skirt Maddie gave her that she'd been wearing all day. She'd still be wearing it if it wasn't dirty from the rink. The sweater, a favorite gift from Gina, was the only one she'd wear. Of course, she had to also wear Grandma's legwarmers - "just like a real figure skater!"

It had been about three weeks since she last touched the ice... would she remember? I was a bit worried as I watched her march down to the rink door with the confidence of an Olympic skater. My little bird surprised me! While she's still shaky on the ice, the girl gets around. Adding a twirl now and then for some flair.

There's nothing better then having her skate over to me and say "Mom! This is SO much fun!"

Oh, how I love this girl.

----

Waiting for class to being, showing off her skating moves...

Mom, are you sure this helmet fits me? And, tell me again why I can't have a full-face hockey mask like the boys?!?

Look Mom, no hands!

I love the scale of this photo... big rink, tiny girl...

As always, you can find Amelia hanging out with the boys...
